Kim Bowcutt

Event Center Director

Kim Bowcutt is a dedicated leader, lifelong horse enthusiast, and experienced event professional. With deep roots in the rodeo world, Kim actively competes in barrel racing and enjoys capturing moments behind the lens for her husband’s family-owned rodeo company.

Before stepping into her current role, Kim built a strong foundation in the hospitality industry, managing hotels and honing her expertise in event operations. For the past 20 years, she has been an integral part of the Cowlitz County Event Center, where she now serves as the Director. In this role, she oversees the Fair & Rodeo, County Tourism, and the Event Center, bringing passion and vision to every aspect of her work.

Kim’s lifelong love for community, rodeo, and event management continues to drive her commitment to excellence. Whether in the arena, behind the camera, or leading large-scale events, she brings dedication and heart to everything she does.

Shelby Hixson

Administrative Assistant

Shelby, a Longview, WA native, holds a Business Administration degree from Washington State University Vancouver.

Since 2017, she has been with Cowlitz County, managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable for the office. Shelby brings several years of customer service experience and is dedicated to ensuring financial operations run smoothly and efficiently in her role.

Outside of work, Shelby enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and kids.

Ashley Lachney

Business Development + Marketing Coordinator

Ashley graduated from Washington State University Vancouver with a degree in Human Resources and Personnel Psychology. After working a few years in the corporate sector at a local manufacturing facility, she transitioned to entrepreneurship and proudly owned Alston Mayger Events for nearly seven years.

She joins The Event Center excited to partner with clients in creating a great guest experience and unforgettable events.

Maile Walker

Fair Coordinator

Since joining the County in 2017, Maile has drawn from her prior experience at Walt Disney World Resort in sales and event coordination. She’s passionate about helping clients create memorable experiences and thrives in event planning.

Maile also coordinates the Cowlitz County Fair, utilizing her skills to bring people together and ensure successful events. Maile is dedicated to fostering strong community connections and creating enjoyable, lasting experiences for all involved.

Melinda Payne

Event Coordinator

Melinda holds a degree in Behavioral Science from the University of Arizona-Global Campus.

With a career spanning philanthropy, finance, customer relations, and event planning, she has developed a diverse skill set. Her combination of strategic vision, organizational skills, and passion for helping others defines her professional journey.

Terribly HOT in the conference room! So hot I almost passed out! Everyone was fanning themselves with anything they could find that would help a little. But out in the lobby the air conditioning was flowing cold. We're not in the lobby all day we're in the conference room!

Busy every weekend with some kind of event. Big facility with a variety of spaces from big open arena and animal barns, that can be cold in inclement weather, (and older restrooms) to an indoor exhibit area, warm and cozy and spacious, with nice new restrooms. Also big grassy open field for outdoor meets.

For a smaller county, the center itself is a good size and well-kept though it can seem fairly empty and lifeless. I recently attended a music records expo at this event center and I was pleasantly surprised by how much they were able to fit into one of the bigger rooms. Parking is solid and not far.

January. 4-8pm Indoors was cooler than outside until it reached room capacity.
Floral building was not heated.

Participated in the UKC Classic dog show here the first weekend in August 2024.

There were a large number of participants here involved in a number of dog activities. A lot of the open field areas were set up showing dogs in conformation or doing coursing events. Other activities included weight pulling, obedience, rally and agility as well.

The grounds are kept in pretty nice shape there were lots of large shade trees in one of the areas across from the large main structure. There are also hookups with electricity for RVs and trailers and additional areas where tents could be set up.

Unfortunately it does not offer any shower facilities and there are only two bathrooms in the arena area. So if you're going to be tent camping you're going to be roughing it.
